Loosing weight?!?

I'm joining my schools swim team. I'm also in dance but only 1 day a week for 1 and a half hours a day. For our swim team, we'll be swimming twice a week for 2 hours a day. People tell me it's a really good workout. I want to tone up and loose weight. Does anyone have swimming/workout expreience where you lost weight? Also, when I'm not dancing or swimming I'm working out my horse. How long before I will start seeing weight loss?

Swimming doesnt really help you lose weight as much as maintain it and tones your muscles.  You are going to love it!!!!!  I swim 4 days a week and i dance once.  I have lost weight but I think its only because I push myself really hard during practice.  My friends havent lost weight but definetly maintain their good bodies but they dont push themselves very hard!  Hope I helped!!!!  

    P.S.  It will both help your swimming and help you be fitter if you run a mile or so a day.

Don't listen to GiGi.  Your body processes food faster after exercise because your metabolism has increased.  I would encourage you to be careful about what you eat.  Losing weight is not just about diet or exercise, it's combining the two together.  Eat food that is high in protein and fiber, low in sugar and saturated fats - i.e., stay away from desserts and fried foods.

  3. The best way to loose weight after doing sports (whatever sports, include swimming) is don't eat in the 3 hours after you do sports. Visible results in short period. Because your body will absorb twice the fat if you eat after doing sports.

  4. i am a high school swimmer too, yes swimming is a good workout. you might not lose weight, but it will turn to muscle so all that weight won't be from fat but from muscle. butterfly and breast stroke seam to work abs and pecs. freestyle and back stroke seam to do a little on the pecs but mainly on the  shoulder area and legs. swimming is a great sport i love it hope you do to. good luck!
