Lord Colin Moynihan hails British sailing team as he visits Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy
British Olympic Association (BOA) chairman, Lord Colin Moynihan, has hailed the British sailing team on their performance at the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta which finished on June 11. Moynihan was
on a visit to the 2012 London Olympics sailing venue, Weymouth and Portland. The BOA chairman believes that the team will show the same great performance in the Olympics too.
The British sailors won two of the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta category races, RS:X Men and Finn categories. The team also grabbed second places in 470 Women and Match Racing, while third positions
in 49er and Laser categories.
Moynihan was quite happy with the country’s performance in the race and was hopeful for better results in the Olympics as he visited the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy during the regatta.
While speaking to the local media during the venue’s visit, Moynihan said, "I had heard good things about the venue but to come down and see in detail all the good things about it both on and off
the water is remarkable."
He added, "This has been quote a tough week because we have had some extreme weather conditions and all the volunteers, the support staff and the jury need to go through this as it is a test event
for themselves as much as the athletes."
He was quite satisfied with facilities as he said, "The quality of the facilities off the water and the improved infrastructure, roads and support structure in the village for the athletes is a gold
medal performance and we are starting to see some gold medal performances from the sailors.”
