The Lord of the Rings absolutely blows HP out of the water on all fronts - casting and acting, sets, props, costuming, writing, directing, music, and of course the story.  HP, nor any other story for that matter, could possibly compete with the magnificent scope and sheer vastness that is The Lord of the Rings.  Tolkien created an entire world, complete with histories, races and cultures, languages, everything.
