  1. Before Peter made the bet he coated his finger in bodily waste.  Given the 2 hours and the rate of bacteria growth flies would find it.

  2. Sure, I can do that.  First, find a place (like a pub) that has an unusually high number of flies.  Next, coat your finger with something sweet to attract the fly.  Then provide the fly a high perch on which to land (i.e. an extended finger).  Finally, try to remain motionless.  A fly will *eventually* land on the finger.  A fly will probably also land on your head, your shoulders, the rim of your pint, the edge of the bar, etc.

  3. Discretely put a little sugar, sugar water or sweet soda on your fingertip.

Guarantee any fly will find it.

When in a bar, bet money you can kill a fly and bring it back to life. Drown a fly in a glass of water. As soon as it quits moving, take it out and put it on the bar. Cover it with salt. Five to ten minutes later it will dig itself out of the salt pile and fly away.

  4. Eweu!!!! The things guys talk about !!! lol

  5. I don't know who "Peter" is, but nobody is going to sit at a bar and remain motionless for 2 hours. Nobody. You look like a loon, the bartender gets peeved at you, you start cramping all over -- and for what?  To win a bar bet?  I don't think any bar bet is worth remaining motionless for 2 hours.

In short, this didn't happen. But speaking hypothetically, if someone did do this, it would be very easy to get a fly to land on your finger as others have already explained.

  6. He stuck his finger in excrement or some other substance attractive to flies?

  7. pay up

  8. i remember that book, spark notes it

  9. yeah, he knew there were a lot of flies around, and figured why not make a few dollars. I am sure he was hoping to accomplish the task much sooner. But since no time restraint was made on the bet, he could have sat there for 8 hours, depending on just how large the bet was.

    Sorry, time to pay up.
