  1. Some of these answers can only be found by reading the entire LOTR saga.

    1. Tom Bombadil is not a mortal. He is one of the "maiar", a race of angelic beings sent to inhabit the earth when it was created. The ring has no power over him because he does not desire it.

    2. Aragorn is descended directly, father to father, from Elendil and his son Isildur, the Numenorean kings of ancient times. Therefore he is the rightful king of Gondor.

    3. Saruman wanted the ring to increase his own power and rule. He tried to coerce Gandalf into giving him information about where to find it. Gandalf, seeing Saruman had turned to evil, refused.

    4. Gwaihir the giant eagle carried him away, and then Gandalf found the horse Shadowfax.

    5. The dwarves (Tolkien's preferred spelling) were destroyed by the Balrog, a demonic spirit living far below ground.

    6. To Sam, a seed in a small box of soil. To Frodo, a vial of light. To Aragorn, advice. To Legolas, a bow. To Gimli, a strand of her own hair. To all of them, cloaks, brooches, boats for travelling on the river, "lembas" (sort of like Elvish granola bars), and rope.

  2. I've never read the books, but I love the movies so I'll help with what I can, but if they changed things, I can't help it if my answers are wrong.

    1. No clue.

    2. Aragorn is the only living heir to Isildur, the last King of Gondor, and the one who had the chance to destroy the ring but didn't, causing the fall of mankind.

    3. Saruman joined Sauron's evil forces, and imprisoned Gandalf when he wouldn't join him.

    4. Gandalf escaped by sending a moth to get an eagle.

    5. They were attacked by a mixed breed of orcs / goblins.

    6. Galadrial give's each one a different gift and these are what I can remember:

Legolas: a new bow that will never break (I think)

Frodo: the light of Elendial, (a star)

    Sam: an unbreakable Elvish rope

Gimli: three strands of her hair

Sorry, I can't remember what she gave Merry, Pippin, Aragorn, or Boromir, this is JUST a guess, but I think she gave Merry and Pippin each a dagger.

Along with their seperate gifts, she gave them all Lembas bread.

  3. 1) Tom isn't affected by the ring because he renounces "control" power. Meaning he isn't tempted to gain power or control. The Ring only affects those who are slightly tempted to gain power.

    2) Aragorn is the last living heir of Isildur and because of that he inherits Anduril (the Sword that Was Broken or The Flame of the West), The Ring of Barahir, and the throne of Gondor.

    3) Saruman became corrupted with the desire to own the One Ring and betrayed those that trusted him. Gandalf was the one who resisted temptation and removed Saruman from power (with the help of the ents).

    4) When he refused to join Saruman's evil forces, Saruman locked Gandalf in the top of the tower. An old friend, Gwaihir, flew in and helped him escape to Edoras. Gwaihir was actually sent to inform Saruman of Gollum's position but spotted Gandalf trapped at the top and knew that foul play was involved.

    5) The dwarves depleted all their current veins of mithril and so dug deeper. But they dug too deep and awoke the Balrog. It killed their King Dain and his son, and the dwarfs were unable to defeat the demon and so they fled. A long time after that Balin (from The Hobbit) led an expedition down into Moria to hopefully recolonize it, but after a few years the orcs attacked and killed Balin. His tomb was later found by the Fellowship

    6) Oh boy, hmm let's see. She was the one that gave Aragorn the Elessar but only because Arwen passed it on to her to give to him. She also gave Aragorn the sheath for Anduril. She gave Sam a seed and some dirt, which he used to help heal the Shire. She gave Gimli three strands of hair. Frodo she gave the star of Erendeill (however you spell it.) A golden belt for Boromir, a Bow for legolas, and I believe silver belts for Merry and Pippin.

Upon further investigation (my book), Galadriel did not give the fellowship the ropes or Lembas, those were loaded in their boats by other elves.

    Hope this all helps :p

  4. It doesn't look to me like you have questions from summer reading.  It looks like you want someone to do a school assignment for you.  I could be wrong, because reading Fellowship of the Ring is a pretty demanding assignment for high school and the questions you're asking are pretty simple for a college course.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt, bombadil is older and possibly more powerful than the One Ring.

Aragorn is heir to the throne of Gondor.

Saruman made a secret alliance with Sauron, and Gandalf would not join him.

The dwarves of Moria dug too deep and uncovered something evil in their mines that wiped them out.

And finding out which gifts Galadriel gave the Fellowship is about the easiest question of that bunch to look up in the book.

  5. the only anwser i know is that gandalf escaped on a big eagle
