Lore Eizaguirre wins the opening heat of the day at 6-Star Swatch Girls Pro France
Day one of the ASP 6-Star Swatch Girls Pro France started in challenging conditions at Les Bourdaines in France, on Wednesday, June 1.
In heat 1, Ukrainian surfer Lore Eizaguirre knocked out Tanika Hoffman (ZAF) and Anali Gomez (PER) with a total score of 4.60 out of 10. Hoffman finished second with a total score of 4.20, while Gomez was placed third with 3.75 points.
After the heat, Lore Eizaguirre spoke to media representatives, “It is really hard at the moment with quite difficult conditions and a strong current running down the beach. You have to choose well your waves which I realized at the start of the heat when
I caught my first wave.”
The wavering weather conditions at the site didn't allow surfers to make any mistakes as even the slightest of errors means, starting over again and gaining momentum from scratch. Eizaguirre did test the waves yesterday, but found them to be more challenging
today, which made surfing a little tricky. The Ukrainian though, held her own throughout the heat and locked a couple of decent waves to earn her final score.
According to Eizaguirre, she felt at home when surfing at Les Bourdaines as her earlier practice sessions here helped her get accustomed to the conditions at the site, and gave her a slight edge over her opponents.
In heat 2, Keshia Seelow Eyre of Portugal finished first with a total score of 5.25. Kaleigh Gilchrist of USA was placed second with a score of 3.75 and Maria Ortiz of Spain settled for third spot with 2.75 points.
Seelow acknowledged that the conditions were not ideal for the surfers, and it was all about waiting for the right wave and locking it. This was the Portuguese surfer's first appearance at the event.
While speaking to reporters after the heat, Seelow said, “The current made it really difficult to catch the waves in the right spot. I got a mushy right hander and I managed to do a couple of cut-backs and then the white water came through and I hit it....This
is the first time I have ever surfed here really.”
