Lorena Ochoa Invitational: Stacy Lewis stands tied for fourth in second round
American Stacy Lewis could not maintain her momentum in the second round of Lorena Ochoa Invitational as she carded a 70 on Friday.
However, Lewis managed to cling to the fourth position in the second round of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) event, being played at Guadalajara Country Club, Mexico.
The American star kicked off the first round with plenty of confidence and posted an impeccable 67. She managed to fire five birdies and steered clear of bogeys.
But the second round saw her switch to a shaky mode as she missed good chances on some of the holes.
She started the round on Friday with an aim to improve her position on the leaderboard, and everything seemed to go in the right direction after she reeled off a birdie on the first hole.
She then parred seven holes in a row and shot her second birdie on the par-5 9th.
On the back nine, the world number second golfer looked a little jittery as she made sloppy shots on some holes. She drained two straight birdies on the 13th and 14th,
but had to face disappointment when she tainted her score by shooting three consecutive bogeys on the 15th, 16th and par-3 17th.
Despite having being rattled by a string of bogeys, the star golfer sank a birdie on the last hole to regain her confidence.
American Angela Stanford kept her momentum going in the second round as well, as she posted a 67 to retain her lead. Stanford grabbed an early lead in the first round by carding a 66.
Speaking to the media about her performance at the end of the round on Friday, Stanford said that she will try to remain in contention in the third and final round.
“Well I think I got off to a better start, um, and it was pretty solid all the way around and I didn’t even realize until I missed my first green on 15 and, and looked and didn’t even realize
it,” said the American star who won the 2008 Lorena Ochoa Invitational.
“So those are usually good days when you’re kind of in a rhythm and you don’t realize kind of what’s going on. So uh, just more solid”.
