Lorena Ochoa an inspiration for every player
Women’s golf might have produced plenty of star performers in its long-standing history, but when the word success is mentioned, Lorena Ochoa’s name is not far behind.
Hailing from Mexico, Ochoa ruled the women’s golf world for over three years —something that helps her eclipse the fame of almost all the contenders on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association)
and LET (Ladies European Tour).
There is no question that the Mexican prodigy not only crafted a stunning professional career, starting from 2002 to 2010, but she still serves as a role model to many golfers and they have
certainly learned a lot just watching her play on the course.
Ochoa notched 27 LPGA victories in her career, with two major wins. However, the only thing that helped the golfing sensation stand out among her peers was that she held the number one spot
in the world rankings for a long time.
The former LPGA phenom was perhaps in everyone’s minds all the time and she was often thought of as a mentor to most of them.
Although the star golfer is back on the golfing scene these days, she has no intention of starting a professional career again. She is playing for fun.
Having quit pro golf two years back, Ochoa’s reminders are just about everywhere on the LPGA Tour. One big example is Yani Tseng, who also seems to be treading the footsteps of the Mexican
pride as she has also held the number one ranking for several months now.
Anyone wishing to delve deep into what the former world number one has done for women’s golf can see her name big and bold everywhere.
These days, Ochoa can be seen playing golf on invitations. For instance, officials of Lacoste Ladies Open de France invited her to participate in the 2012 edition of the tournament.
Sharing her thoughts about what it felt like to hit balls once again, Ochoa said that she does not play regular golf as she has retired now, but her relationship with the sport has not ended
completely, and never will.
“It’s an easy answer. Having Lacoste as a sponsor, they asked me to come and play the tournament. They asked me actually last year and I couldn’t because I was pregnant so I said, no, it would
be too difficult for me,” she said.
But the golfing giant was happy to tell that she had an opportunity to play in a regular tournament, despite the fact it cannot give her any monetary benefits and fame.
“I’m excited because it’s a good opportunity for me to be able to play in a regular tournament and see how it goes. I’m not going to put pressure on myself because I don’t practice anymore.
My life is very different so be relaxed and try to smile out there”.
