Lorena Ochoa says she enjoyed at Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012
Former world number one, Lorena Ochoa may have missed out on a chance to impress the spectators at the Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012, but her presence in the event had much more to do with inspiring her admirers than winning.
Ochoa shot an overall 279 to take the share of 22nd position with three other contenders. However, it was obvious that winning was not on her mind as she said while speaking to the media that she took part in the event to enjoy her time.
Ochoa has been the most accomplished golfer on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour, having grabbed 27 victories.
In 2010, Ochoa decided to retire. However, she has recently made a return to golf — but this time she is not playing as a professional.
Although she had been out of touch for over two years, her fans kept an affectionate eye on her all this time.
Commentators said that the Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012 grabbed the headlines not just because of a solid field that featured competent LET (Ladies European Tour) stars, but also because of Ochoa.
The four-round LET tournament saw hordes of excited fans streaming into the course at Chantaco Golf Club, Aquitaine, France, to witness Ochoa perform after a long time.
The first round saw the former world number one shoot a 69 — something that helped her gain a good position on the leaderboard. However, she lost her momentum in the second round as she carded a 72, putting her off track.
She stated, “I am happy. It was really a good week. I did make a few mistakes and had trouble a little bit on the greens".
"I was frustrated today, you know, I have to say that, but at the same time, I need to be happy. I am here just to enjoy it. This is more like an exhibition for me,” said Ochoa at the end of the final round that saw her post a 70 on the leaderboard.
She went on to say that women’s golf is making headway, which is good for players and the LET. “I love to see that the European Tour is growing so much”.
