Lorena Ochoa shoots 69 in first round at Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012
Lorena Ochoa played the first round of Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012 with her head held high as the former world number one carded a superb 69 to tie for the 17th position
on the leaderboard.
Ochoa, who belongs to Mexico, retired form professional golf in 2010, is taking part in the Lacoste Ladies Open De France on an invitation from the tournament officials.
Yet, the golfing sensation did not look like she has lost her charisma because she could still make solid putts. Although she did not make it to the top-ten slots, her game was perfect enough
to keep her in a good position till the end of the first round on Thursday.
Ochoa might not have looked like she used to before retiring from professional golf in 2010, but she sent the crowd buzzing with chanting and clapping after she launched some eye-catching
shots on the fairways and greens.
Starting her round with an unwanted bogey on the first hole, the former world number quickly regained her composure and parred the next two holes.
She received a big round of applause after she reeled off a birdie on the par-5 fourth hole.
Although her performance is not going to build up her resume, she seemed concerned about her performance on Thursday.
Sharing her thoughts about how she performed in the first round, Ochoa said she is not fully satisfied with what she did on Thursday as she missed several good chances to score.
“I think for sure, I made a couple of mistakes out there that made me mad, but I think it was a good day. I was trying to go around in par," she said.
“I three putted a couple of times and it made me really mad, but it’s okay. I have to bear with some bad shots. I think tomorrow, if I get the speed right, especially on the front nine, if
I feel more comfortable, I’m going to make more putts and make more birdies”.
Commentators said Ochoa’s presence in the roster has spiced up the already-hyped tournament, despite the fact that she is not in the tournament to battle rivals with aggression.
Ochoa is regarded as the most accomplished player both on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and LET (Ladies European Tour). She held the number one spot for over three years
— something that gives her an edge over almost every player in women’s golf history.
