Lorena Ochoa to get EWGA highest honour
Lorena Ochoa, who keeps a stunning profile due to winning the Rolex LPGA Players of the Year four times, will reportedly be awarded the EWGA’s Highest Honour.
The prestigious award will be handed to her next month at the Golfpalooza gathering, Las Vegas.
Ochoa, who has been phenomenal in her career, has said that the award will give her the much-needed confidence and prestige.
According to the details, Ochoa intends to be present at the award-giving ceremony slated to be held on April 18-21, at the JW Marriott Resort and Spa.
The news had been going rounds that the four-time Rolex LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Player of the Year would not be able to attend the award-giving ceremony.
However, Ochoa has dispelled all the doubts regarding her participation, saying she will attend the ceremony in person and receive her accolade.
In addition to Ochoa, there will also be a number of nominees, who will receive their awards for their services to women’s golf.
The EWGA plans to give multiple awards this year. Those players who have not only played well on the course, but they also helped other players to rise, will also be given honorific awards.
Those players, who have inspired younger players and brought them to the golf course, will be given special attention and awards.
Women’s golf has been seeking to revive itself amid a tough situation, as the number of female golfers saw a little decline recently.
Now that the EWGA has set the ball rolling, analysts are pointing out that giving such awards on a yearly basis will promote golf across the world.
The EWGA has been awarding players since 2001 and has served women’s amateur golf, using all its resources.
The Association has about 14000 members, highlighting its credibility among amateur female golfers.
EWGA CEO Pam Swensen said that Ochoa is the perfect pick for The EWGA Leadership Award because of her resilience on the course and her conduct.
"Lorena has been known not only as a champion golfer, but an active philanthropist and ambassador," Swensen said.
Swensen went on, "She has inspired the world by helping aspiring golfers and women realize their dreams. We look forward to honouring her ongoing contributions to the game".
