Lorena Ochoa to keep spectators hyped up on home soil
Former world number one Lorena Ochoa is set to grace the Lorena Ochoa Invitational 2012, scheduled to be played from November 8-11, at Guadalajara Country Club.
Ochoa, who quit professional golf in 2010, said while speaking to her pre-tournament interview at Guadalajara on Wednesday that she is more than happy to be back at her event, as her fans
still want her to play on the home soil.
“I´m very happy to be playing. I´m glad to be back playing good golf and I’m xcited for tomorrow to be playing the first round of the tournament and to all of you thanks for coming,” said
Lorena who is now 30 years old.
Although the match scores will not make a difference on her profile, Ochoa’s presence is being viewed as something crucial for this event.
The tournament, which was launched to pay tribute to Ochoa, has several leading Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) stars like current world number one Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis and
Catriona Matthew, but Ochoa stands taller than all.
The Mexican star might have lost her charisma now, but her style of entertaining and explosive golf is going to suit the star-spangled lineup and keep the local spectators all hyped up.
Ochoa is considered to be the most accomplished female golfer not just in Mexico, but across the world. With 27 LPGA wins, the golfing sensation has eclipsed the popularity of several big
names in history.
Starting golf at the age of five, Ochoa quickly grabbed the attention of professionals of the time and worked hard to make it to college level sport.
She then got her feet wet with the Symetra Tour. The former world number one has often attributed her successful career to her decision to join the Symetra Tour, saying it helped her build
a solid foundation of her game.
“We got started on the Symetra Tour. A couple of the Mexicans also got their start there. It´s important to get that base of collegiate golf to then be able to have a solid career on the LPGA
tour,” Lorena said.
She went on to say that she was impressed by the rousing reception she received yesterday.
