Loris Capirossi deems Valentino Rossi can win again – MotoGP news
On Valentino Rossi’s return to Yamaha Factory Racing, ‘the Doctor’ is likely to get back to winning ways according to Loris Capirossi, 15-time world champion and MotoGP legend.
Capirossi made this prediction based on his own testing experience of Yamaha’s YZR-M1. Capirossi was officially appointed Bridgestone’s Safety Advisor to Dorna Sports after he retired from his riding career at the end of 2011 season. In his capacity as the
safety advisor, Capirossi got the chance to test Yamaha’s M1 over 2012 MotoGP season.
“I had a chance to do a few laps with the Yamaha in Valencia, and I thank them for it: I realised how competitive it is,” Capirossi told Gazzetta dello Sport.
Having spent five riding season with Ducati himself and having experienced their bike fully, Capirossi blames Ducati rather than Rossi for Rossi’s poor performance over two consecutive seasons. Astoundingly, Rossi could not clinch even a single victory and
3 podium finishes was all he could muster out of 17 Grand Prix rounds while riding for Ducati. As a matter of fact, Capirossi had recently suggested that it was impossible for anyone to win riding the current Ducati bike.
It was Casey Stoner who had won Ducati their last MotoGP Grand Prix round and that was in 2009 Malaysian Grand Prix more than 2 seasons ago. Contrary to Ducati’s run over two seasons, Yamaha have won 10 Grand Prix rounds and 30 podium finishes and not to
forget Jorge Lorenzo’s 2012 MotoGP title.
Capirossi predicts that it would be difficult for Rossi to challenge the likes of Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa. He gives Rossi little chance of winning the title, although Capirossi thinks that Rossi will be able to clinch a few Grand Prix victories at
the least.
“Valentino is my friend and I think he will be competitive with a winning bike. He will regain the enthusiasm, even though beating Dani [Pedrosa] and Jorge is super difficult. I think he can win races, [although I] don't know about the title. Should he do
it, we should all bow to him,” said the MotoGP legend.
