Loris Capirossi of Pramac Racing comfortable with retirement decision – MotoGP news
Pramac Racing rider Loris Capirossi reveals his satisfaction with the retirement decision from MotoGP World Championship.
Capirossi shared his views with Motorcyclenews.com and said, “I tried to really understand before I made my decision whether it was right or not. But in the end when I decided to stop it was because it was the right time for me. After 22 years in the paddock
a new life starts for me now.”
The Italian rider spent 22 years of racing in different classes. He has raced with almost every manufacturer in the racing world.
He started his racing career with a Honda machine in the 125cc class and won his career’s first world title in 1990.
The Italian’s second world title was in the following year in 1991 with a Honda machine in 125cc category. His last world title came in 1998 with an Aprilia machine in 250cc class.
Since then he has not been able to clinch a world title in any category. Stepping up to premier class, he raced in 500cc class for 1995 and 1996 seasons.
Then he returned to 250cc category for three seasons and returned to premier class in 2000. Most of his premier class career has been with Ducati and Suzuki.
Last time in the MotoGP world championship, Capirossi faced a very unlucky season. He sustained few injuries and a fracture on his collarbone. He was racing as a satellite Ducati rider.
During another accident his fractured collarbone was again injured that held him off from racing. The Italian rider has been through very rough ride in 2011 and struggled for top-ten positions.
Capirex added, “For 22 years each time I have come to the paddock I have done so as a rider, but now I go in the opposite direction and I will be more like a normal person. But I am happy about that.”
The Italian rider ended his 2011 MotoGP season in 17th position whereas his former teammate Randy de Puniet ranked at 16th position.
While considering Capirossi’s vast racing experience MotoGP has appointed the Italian as a safety expert for riders in the premier class.
