  1. yes they do ...they are a breed of mindless tossers...

  2. Because they can't keep to the same speed all the time, like you can in your car. They slow down on hills, and speed up again afterwards. If they didn't overtake, and all went at the speed of the slowest truck, you'd soon moan about that.

  3. Hardly a pointless manoeuvre.

If waggons couldn`t overtake then you would have about  at least 10 miles of them travelling in the inside lane. Try to get off the motorway and onto the slip lane with this scenario.

Waggon drivers are a very professional group of people and technically, due to speed limiters, the only place they can overtake is up-hill due to either a power or lighter load advantage.

They are no different to car drivers who see the need to overtake, it is just that the sheer weight of the waggon makes the speed difference a lot slower.

I am a car driver speaking up for the lorry driver.

    How rare is that?

  4. They are simply overtaking. Their limiters restrict them to slightly less than sixty mph.

A fully laden lorry going up a hill is going to slow down, why shouldn't a lighter load overtake?

If everyone was to obey the speed limit of 70 mph, the lorries could be easily overtaken in the third lane. Its the speed freaks in cars that cause the problem, not the lorries.

  5. Begs the question, why do car drivers sit in the middle lane, when theres nowt in the inside lane?

Guess those that cannot give a sensible answer to the question, which has already been done, and think its funny to slow down and then speed up in front of a wagon have:

1), Never had the chance to be a passenger or even drive a wagon

    2) Never brought anything delivered by a wagon!

  6. They are saving each other fuel by riding in the slipstream and taking it in turns

  7. Because they are bigger than us and are a*seholes.

To get your own back, get in front of one and very gradually slow down to about 40, then accelerate away. Takes them ages to get back up to speed.

  8. H.G.V.'s in Britain and Europe are electronically limited by law to 56.4mph (90km/h), for your safety.

There are, however, small variables allowed.  This means that some vehicles may have the limiter set at 55mph, some at 54.7mph and others at 56.2 mph, etc.  This is because it is impossible to set all the speed limiters (which are there for your safety) to exactly 56.4mph.

You should be happy that this is done for your safety and that the Government is considering fitting the same type of speed limiters to all cars - for your safety...

  9. Because, they overtake idiot car drivers who sit in the first lane of a motorway doing 50mph, looking absolutely terrified.

HGV drivers are highly skilled drivers and know the motorways like the backs of there hands.

They also go into the second lane as they know a slip road is approaching, to allow other drivers to access the motorway at speed which is how it should be done. Car drivers come down slip roads doing 40mph. This is extremely dangerous.

I can see some people who have answered this question simply have not got a clue about motorway driving.

Put it this way. how many cars do you see on the hard shoulder half crushed and how many HGV `s do you see smashed.

    I rest my case.

  10. One of course could turn this one around and have a go at the selfish car drivers that undertake, middle lane hog, nip into the 'space' in front of an artic travelling at 60MPH that weighs 40T and expect the artic to brake in time etc.  But I would never be so churlish.

  11. they are limited at 60 so if someone is heavy and doing 58 they try to overtake.  this ends up with them side by side for fcuking ages and its annoying.  they dont like to brake to slow down for someone because it takes so long to get the speed back.

there are stretches of 2 lane motorway where this is now illegal in peak times.
