Los Angeles Angel hint at trading slugger Bobby Abreu -MLB Update
The Los Angeles Angels have added some big names to their roster during the 2011 Major League Baseball (MLB) offseason thus far, which has their slugger Bobby Abreu on the radar to possibly be traded in the upcoming days as the team hinted at allowing him
to explore other growing opportunities.
There is no doubt that Abreu is one of those players that have been sidelined over the past couple of seasons due to the team requiring other players participating in a more valuable front, now as the player will need $9 million next season and is more of
a part time player, seeing him somewhere else would be better according to the club.
According to general manager, Jerry Dipoto, it is unclear whether he wants him to stay on the team or not with a diplomatic nature statement about the player when asked about a potential trade situation.
"Right now, (Abreu) is a valuable asset," Dipoto said Monday, Fox reports. "I have a world of respect for Bobby. I want to make sure he's in a position to be productive. Right now, we have that ability."
Now, having big wig Albert Pujols on the team along with the comeback of Kendrys Morales, who was out for the least season because of a leg related injury, Abreu is most likely to be playing in time of dire need when all others have failed to do anything,
which could be rare and even never.
Fox's sources say that Abreu would like to "play every day, extend his career two or three more years, (and) enhance his Hall of Fame credentials."
The 37-year-old has over 15 years of experience in the major league and is a valuable player in deed having played with a number of teams such as the Houston Astros before the turn of the season followed by his longest playing streak with the Philadelphia
Phillies along with the New York Yankees and the recent three with the Los Angeles Angels.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Bobby Abreu as the offseason progresses and teams begin to wind up their final moves before the regular season gets close.
