Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers remain biggest offseason spenders – MLB News
Sources say that Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers remained biggest offseason spenders. Both franchises made some of their all time big deals and now looking to play in the grand finale of Major League potentially in the World Series next season.
Los Angeles Dodgers brought Zack Greinke and Los Angeles Angels signed Josh Hamilton. These two signings are huge in different approaches.
Dodgers, who did not play well in the last Major League Baseball, certainly wanted to change their overall stance to play in the next season. They earlier considered bringing some new faces especially hitters. However as the season progressed, they figured
it out that Angels star pitcher Zack Greinke has filed for free agency and looking for a new team in the league.
They approached Greinke’s agent and offered a deal which certainly matched Zack Greinke’s game. Greinke and his agent also accepted the deal and started a new beginning with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Earlier the Dodgers also felt that Angels might sign Greinke again but in the end it was all in the media that Angels do don’t want any extra cash on a starter as they already have some good starters in the roster. Later Dodgers saw the opportunity and signed
Zack Greinke.
Coming onto Los Angeles Angels big catch Josh Hamilton’s five year $125 million deal also was not an immediate attempt. They also took their time to bring in Hamilton for five years. Angels wanted to give more strength to their batting lineup as they despite
with slight poor financial position, signed the former Texas Rangers star to a five year deal.
"To get a guy like Josh and combine him with Albert is going to give us building blocks for what we hope is years to come," manager Mike Scioscia said for Hamilton. "We can't wait."
“It was a great investment, I think it's just great, Why would I ever want to wish something bad on someone? I really liked Greinke, but you make a decision how much you're going to spend on one player. We said we're going to get a couple relievers and a
pitcher. I personally can't wait to play them," later Angels owner Arte Moreno said.
Meanwhile, the coming season will witness how Angels and Dodgers offseason spending pay off.
