Los Angeles Angels' GM Jerry Dipoto wants more depth in rotation and bullpen – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels' general manager Jerry Dipoto knows where his team needed more improvement. Last season, the Angels' entire hitting prowess showed enormous progress on the plate but they still could not do much in order to qualify for the 2012 Major League Baseball season.
As soon as the season ended, their management started looking deep into what went wrong on respective ends as despite a strong unit, their team performed with little energy.
Starting from pitching, the Angels’ management looked into relievers as well as into starters overall performance and prepared a brief report which they now examining in this year’s annual Major League Baseball Winter Meetings.
The Angels' general manager Jerry Dipoto, who is known for his aggressive strategies, has explained in the media regarding his big team’s major requirements.
After mentioning his potential objectives to bring some of the top pitchers in the roster next season, he also explained that Angels’ relief and starting rotation will be stronger than ever in the coming seasons.
"The idea is we want to have a championship bullpen and championship rotation, We want to have a 1-to-12 pitching staff, and depth at 13 to 20. We aren't done with that by any stretch," Dipoto said after the Madson signing this week.
"The back end of our bullpen the last few years has been our downfall, We blew more than 20 saves each of the past two years. If we can eliminate even quarter of those, we're in the playoffs, When you that type of lockdown bullpen, it makes it lot easier on starter, If you have a lockdown seventh-eighth-ninth, then you are really shortening the game,” pitching coach Mike Butcher said this week.
Experts believe that Angels’ top management might bring some of the most experienced pitchers in this offseason to give stability to their current dire starting and relief pitching.
Though Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson, Garrett Richards and Tommy Hanson possess the ability to provide Angels with best attack but still if more pitchers do come, their offence certainly will be more firm in the coming seasons.
