Los Angeles Angels' outfielder Mike Trout wins two prestigious honours – MLB Update
With a fabulous all round performance in 2012 Major League Baseball regular season, the Los Angeles Angels' outfielder Mike Trout has been selected by Baseball America, the Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year.
Trout competed with Washington Nationals’ ace Bryce Harper for these two awards.
“You saw it when he made the All-Star Game and went into Kansas City and people were coming to see him—rather than vice versa. That's kind of remarkable for a 20-year-old guy,” Angels' GM Jerry DiPoto said about Trout during the regular season and praised his consistency level.
Eddie Bane, who drafted Trout, and who is also a former Scouting Director commented on Trout’s talent and his extraordinary skills as he said, "I would personally look and see, 'Oh God, Mike is facing Felix Hernandez tonight. I wonder what he's going to do? And then he'd hit a home run or you'd see a quote from Felix saying, 'Geez, that guy does things I haven't seen before.'He isn't feeding off the bottom of the pool. He's hitting the big guys."
Detroit Tigers' third baseman Miguel Cabrera was not included in the list despite his consistent 2012 performances. Currently he is playing in the post-season against the New York Yankees with .330 hitting average along with 44 home-runs, 139 RBIs and .393 OBP.
Washington Nationals' outfielder Harper finished the season with .270 hitting average along with 22 home-runs, 59 RBIs and .340 OBP in his rookie season.
While Trout exceeded both players with his persistent .326 hitting average along with 30 home-runs, 83 RBIs and .399 OBP. He proved his valour and remained consistent during the entire season.
Trout played brilliantly throughout the season and won many games for the Angels. Though his performances later in the season could not help his team as they failed to qualify for the post-season but still his extraordinary skills and hitting thrust remained intact until the last game of the regular season.
Angels lost the post-season spot from the Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics. Angels’ finished winning 89 games with .549 winning percentage.
