Los Angeles Angels’ Dan Haren reflects on 3-4 loss to Texas Rangers – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels’ starter Dan Haren was recently called to the mound as the Texas Rangers won 4-3 on Monday, September 26 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. The star hurler was required to put the American League West leaders against the wall as the Angels would
work out the winning runs.
That however was not to be the outcome as the opposition capitalised on an error from Alberto Callaspo and a two run homer from Adrian Beltre. On top of the game early, the Rangers pushed the Angels to the edge as they worked out an impressive victory. Haren
was the only pitcher that featured for the Los Angeles club on the mound.
He pitched eight innings, conceding four runs off nine hits. The pitcher was unable to stop the flow of runs and ended up picking a game loss, raising his earned run average to 3.17. He ended the season with a 16-10 standing in the season.
With Haren’s losing performance, the Angels’ chance to go ahead in the Wild-Card chase went out of the window. The Boston Red Sox lost their game earlier in the day and it was a chance that the Angels should have taken. However with the defeat came the loss
of a play-off spot.
"Realistically, our [Wild Card] chances were very slim coming into the game," Haren said. "We knew what was going on. Boston lost. We were hanging by a thread."
Haren was pleased to see his squad colleagues perform. With the absence of Scott Kazmir and Kendrys Morales, things were always going to be difficult. However the youngsters kept the club’s ambitions alive.
"We played good baseball pretty much the whole year. We had our ups and downs. The young guys played great. I don't know where we'd have been without Mark (Trumbo) and Peter (Bourjos) and Jordan [Walden] and the rest of the young guys."
With the end of the season, Haren will be pleased with his performance during the year. He will be hoping the Angels can bring up a play-off spot in 2012.
