Los Angeles Angels GM Jerry Dipoto fails to give time-line for Kendrys Morales’ comeback
The Los Angeles Angels’ talented first baseman Kendrys Morales, who suffered a major left ankle injury in May 2010, still has not recovered fully and is doubtful to start in the upcoming training sessions as well as the regular season.
Recently, Angels' general manager Jerry Dipoto has spoke to the media and told reporters about Morales’ current physical development.
Dipoto said,
“He's working out now -- physical therapy, baseball specific drills. There's no timeline, no date on the calendar being saved for him -- whenever Kendrys' body mends. We'll start seeing him regularly. I wouldn't ponder a guess as to when he'll be back, but we've got Pujols, [Bobby] Abreu and [Mark] Trumbo to help us fill in, with the upside of Kendrys coming back.”
He added, “It was all positive signs. We've been saying all along that we were cautiously optimistic – this basically supported that. It was all positive and he's progressing.”
Looking at Dipoto’s comments on Morales potential comeback in the team, experts have concluded their own assessments and stated in the media that veteran Major League player might not play in the upcoming season and instead will prefer some rest before a potential comeback on the baseball field. This will also help him to improve his fitness before playing a Major League game.
On the other hand, the Angels have also committed approximately $3 million in order to switch-hitting Morales for next MLB season but this possibility seems not true with his prolonged ankle injury.
The Angels also do not need Morales for the moment with the arrival of ace slugger Albert Pujols. Before signing Pujols, the Angels did state that Morales is an essential player for them and they are optimistic about his recovery.
Conversely, the Angels’ entire management has now a different prospective on Morales’ future that is directly linked with Albert Pujols’ arrival. For some it might look realistic but several experts do believe that Kendrys Morales is an essential player who proved his class in 2010 season achieving .290 hitting average along with .487 slugging percentage, .346 OBP and .833 OPS.
