Los Angeles Angels’ Mike Scioscia comments after club loses to Baltimore Orioles 3-8 – MLB Update
The Los Angeles Angels were on the losing end of the fence 3-8 on Friday, September 16 when they took on the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park in Camden Yards.
The team was represented on the mound by Dan Haren and he was expected to steer in a much needed win. However the plan fumbled as Tommy Hunter produced a stunning stint on the mound for the O’s and held the Angels.
Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia was grieved by the loss as the club lost an opportunity to close in on the Texas Rangers at the top of the American League West. The team is currently three wins behind the Texans and they will have a season ending series against
them soon.
Scioscia saw Haren lose the game for the team and it was his five innings of pitching that cost the club heavily. Seven runs of the total eight came from Haren and the player had to be substituted in the sixth inning after getting two O’s hitters on the
bases. The coach was expressive about his ace’s role in the encounter.
"He didn't have his A-stuff out there," Mike Scioscia said. "Looked like he was gonna get far enough along and keep us in the game but had some problems coming out in the fifth inning."
The manager had a few words for the game as well. "It was almost like a Spring Training game once it got [to] 8-0," Scioscia said.
The coach had to bring in replacements once it looked unreasonable to use the first choice team players on the bases.
The manager however did assure the fans that this trend was not going to continue in the long run as he commented that this type of performance was not going to repeated in their next few games in the remainder of the regular season.
The Angels still have a chance to win the postseason bid if they can beat the Rangers in a clean sweep in their last series. That situation however should be something Scioscia will want to avoid as that will pressurise the players a great deal.
