Los Angeles Angels’ Mike Scioscia eyes positive outlook on using rookie pitchers after 3-10 loss
The Los Angeles Angels were not playing their second game of the last series in the season for a spot in the play-offs. Manager Mike Scioscia provided a younger pitching rotation an opportunity to shine as the side unfortunately lost 3-10 to the Texas Rangers
at Angel Stadium in Anaheim on Tuesday, September 27.
Jerome Williams featured in the line up and he was joined by Tyler Chatwood. The odds were struck against them as the Rangers powered the game with five homers. Ian Kinsler gave Chatwood a hard lesson pitching first on the line up as he was hit for a home-run.
The hurler went on to concede three more runs as he walked off 2.2 innings of pitching.
"With only a couple of games left, I don't know if we were going to see much more than we already know about these young guys," Scioscia said. "But it's good to get them out there and let them get some get some energy out."
The player was able to comment on his recent performance on the mound. The pitcher picked up his eleventh loss of the season as he ended the year with a 6-11 standing.
"I learned what I need to work on and what I need to keep building on," Chatwood said. "I didn't do a very good job of getting ahead, and when I was ahead, I made pitches and they hit them."
Williams was another victim in the onslaught put forward by the Texans. After conceding a run to Kinsler on a sacrifice fly from Josh Hamilton, he allowed three homers from Adrian Bletre, Mike Napoli and Nelson Cruz, in the fifth. The young blood may be
a good infusion in the line up but the fans will be looking for the club to put up a good fight in the competition.
As the Angels are out of play-off contention, Scioscia is taking the opportunity to introduce the rookie pitchers into the line-up. He will be hoping that the rookie players gain some experience of what it is like to play in the Majors.
