Los Angeles Angels’ Mike Scioscia looks back at turbulent season and praises Texas Rangers
The Los Angeles Angels had a chance to avoid a clean sweep and pin the Texas Rangers down for a trip to the New York Yankees’ home turf for their first encounter in the American League Division Series. They squandered that opportunity on Wednesday, September
28 when they faced their American League West rivals at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim as the club was unable to pick up the win and they were beaten 1-3 by their former player Mike Napoli.
Napoli pummeled the Angels with two homers, to put the Rangers on top with a 3-1 score line. However the Angels were irresponsive and they were unable to come back to the forefront, late in the game. Mike Scioscia took the opportunity to congratulate the
rivals as they now move on to the first game of the post-season at home in Rangers Ballpark against the Tampa Bay Rays.
"Any team that gets in the playoffs has a chance to go all the way," Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia said. "I liked our chances if we'd gotten there. They're obviously a high-calibre club. They had an incredible season. There's going to be some good baseball
in the playoffs."
Angels were unable to restrain the Rangers during their last game. They placed rookie hurler, Garrett Richards on the mound to keep the opposition at bay. He did his best, picking a run from two hits in the five innings he featured in. The problem however
came in the ninth inning as Jordan Walden took charge of the closer’s role. He conceded two runs to lose the game for Los Angeles.
With Scott Kazmir and Kendrys Morales out of the line-up, the Angels have done well but not good enough to top the table in their division.
"This was a roller-coaster year for us," Scioscia said. "It tore us inside out. It teased us.”
Having a bright outlook on the future is the right way to go and everyone knows the Angels can turn their fortune around when the 2012 season comes around.
