Los Angeles Angels: Regular season results – MLB April 2011
Los Angeles Angles made a decent start to their regular season campaign as they battled past Kansas City Royals 4-2 in the opening game of the four match series. Jered Weaver earned his third win in just four games to lift the Angels to an impressive victory
over the Royals.
"Weaver is as good a pitcher I've seen at being able to disrupt hitters' timing," Royals’ manager Ned Yost said. "That's what pitching is all about, trying to keep the opposition off-balance, and he does it as well as anybody. He has a changeup, got different
speeds on his slider and throws his fastball at different speeds and he bangs strikes."
But all good things come to an end and the Angels were unable to maintain their form in the following three games to lose the series 1-3. Although they put a good show in the fourth and final game of the series, the overall quality of their game play was
way below expectations.
The Angels regrouped themselves and showed amazing character in their next two match series against Tampa Bay Rays. Winning both matches, the Angels seemed to be on top of their game as they outclassed the opposition in almost all areas of the game. The
pitchers threw with great control as they restricted a very good hitting side to small totals in both games. The batters also managed to come up with their A-game whenever the team needed them.
"Maybe about three or four pitches he didn't hit what he wanted to," Los Angeles’ manager Mike Scioscia said. "I don't think it's a secret what Dan does, but he really does it well. He's got an uncanny ability to just repeat a delivery and repeat a pitch."
The Angels had a successful series against the Toronto Blue Jays as they came back from a 1-0 deficit to record an emphatic victory. Defeating Cleveland Indians in their next three match series, the Angels looked on course to reach incredible regular season
results. Winning five straight games, the Angels brushed aside Chicago White Sox 3-0 in great style in their next three match series, improving their win-loss record to 10-5. It was a remarkable achievement by the leading AL West considering the kind of start
they had to the regular season.
The Angles had a tough series against Boston Red Sox as they failed to win a single game in a four match series, which dented their confidence levels. However, Mike Scioscia’s side stayed determined and they ended the month strongly with series victories
over Oakland Athletics. Although it was just the beginning of the regular season, the Angels showed that they were a tough team ready to take on any of the top tier teams.
