Los Angeles Angels: Regular season results – MLB July 2011
Los Angeles Angels gave impressive results in the month of July 2011, which improved their regular season win-loss record to 42-40. The AL West team was hoping to produce similar performances in the month of July as well to get to the top of the Wild Card
standings. In the first series of the month against the arch rivals Los Angeles Dodgers, the Angels looked in supreme form as they came back from 1 -0 deficit to register an emphatic series victory.
Although they looked a bit rusty in a completely one sided game one of the series, the Angels came back strongly in game two to level the series at 1-1 and set up an interesting final game clash. Russell Branyan made his most significant contribution for
Los Angeles Angels as he hit a tie-breaking two run homer in seventh innings to bring his side back into the contest. Ervin Santana was brilliant with the ball and he pitched into the eight innings for his first win over a month as the Angels downed the Dodgers
3-1 to clinch a stunning series victory.
"I didn't really know what to expect, as far as playing time. All I knew was that I'd just gotten released by the Diamondbacks and the Angels wanted me to come play for them," said Branyan, who joined his 10th team over 14 big league seasons in
May.
The Angels displayed some high quality baseball in their next three match series against the inform Detroit Tigers. The pitching department, once again, rose to the occasion as it allowed only one run in first two games as the Angels secured a comfortable
2-1 series victory. Although Mike Scioscia was unable to cross the finish line in the final game of the series, they were quite satisfied with what they had achieved during the series.
Los Angeles continued their impressive run in their next four match series against Seattle Mariners as well. Emerging victorious in each game of the series, they improved their win-loss record to 50-42. It was a remarkable achievement by Los Angeles considering
the kind of position they were in at the start of the month.
"We're really together right now, and having a lot of fun," said Torii Hunter, who had two hits and scored the tiebreaking run. "Sweeping a major league ballclub is tough, but since we were here, we might as well sweep them, right?"
Although the Angels had a tough series against Oakland Athletics, they ended the month strongly with victories over Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians. The Angels were beginning to build some quality momentum in their play as they managed
to get some impressive victories during the month of July.
