Los Angeles Angels: Regular season results – MLB June 2011
Los Angeles Angels had a decent start to their regular season campaign and they were looking to improve their win-loss record significantly in the month of June 2011 to top the Wild Card standings table. Although they had a tough series against Seattle Mariners,
Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers, the overall quality of their game play was quite satisfactory in May.
Mike Scioscia and his men were hoping for another strong 30-day period to cheer up their fans. Displaying some high quality baseball in game one of their three match series against New York Yankees, the Angels looked in top form as they secured a thrilling
3-2 win to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Jered Weaver earned his first win in over a month to help his side overcome the inform New York Yankees team.
"I didn't face the Yankees last year, so I was really amped up for this one -- too amped up, as it turned out," Weaver said. "I have to be more careful not to let my emotions get the best of me. You want to come out and use your best pitches against the
leadoff batter. But Jeter is a great player, and he kept fighting them off. At least we were able to get him out after all that."
However, the Angels failed to deliver the goods in following two games of the series to suffer their first series loss of the month. In game two, the Angels fell short of their target despite putting up a great fight. Wasting too many opportunities, Mike
Scioscia’s side let the opposition complete a comfortable series victory in the third and final game.
It was disappointing result for the AL West team considering the kind of start they had made to the series. However, the team management was still confident and they aimed to improve their win-loss record with solid performances in their next three match
series Tampa Bay Rays.
But the Angels were unable to find their form against Tampa Bay Rays and they suffered a humiliating series loss, getting crushed in each encounter, which damaged their regular season record to 30-34. Looking to recover their lost form, the Angels put up
a great show in second game of their three match series against Kansas City Royals as they levelled the series at 1-all. Howie Kendrick had three hits and a pair of RBIs singles to help his side end their six games losing streak.
The Angels managed to end the month on a very positive note as they secured victories over Seattle Mariners, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals, taking their win-loss record to 42-40 at the end of the month.
