Los Angeles Angels: Regular season results – MLB September 2011
Los Angeles Angels had made great strides in the month of August to reach an impressive 73-63 win-loss record. Mike Scioscia and his men were determined to end the regular season on a high note and make it to the playoffs.
Battling past Settle Mariners 4-3, the Angels secured their first series victory of the month in great style. Ervin Santana continued his sensational form and he found a way to earn another win to lift his side to a deserving 4-3 victory. Torii Hunter and
Howie Kendrick homered in a closely contested encounter, which helped the Angels, strengthen their position in the Wild Card standings.
"Obviously, Ervin was not in sync tonight," Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia said. "He battled. He got some double-play balls. He had a 4-0 lead, then walks the bottom of the order in the third and those guys took advantage of it and that helped them get back
in the game. But as the game went on, his breaking ball was better, he had better command. He held up."
The Angels looked a bit rusty in the first game of their three match series against Minnesota Twins as they let the opposition team secure a comfortable 13-5 win. It will not be wrong to say that they were outplayed in almost all departments of the game
by a better side. Showing amazing fighting spirit, determination and mental strength, the Angels bounced back brilliantly in the following two games to clinch their second series victory of the month. The win also improved their win-loss record to 76-64.
Joel Pineiro posted his first win in almost two months to take his side to a 4-1 victory in the final game of the series.
"Every game I go out there I want to contribute and not just count on the big three, like we've been doing all year," Pineiro said.
The Angels had a decent time in their next three match series against Seattle Mariners. Emerging victorious in two of the three games, they floored the Mariners for the second time in a week. Jerome Williams did a superb job as pitcher as he secured his
third win of the regular season to take his side to glory. The Angels then brushed aside the New York Yankees in their next scheduled series.
Defeating Oakland Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays, they ended the season quite strongly to achieve a decent 86-76 win-loss record but they failed to qualify for the playoff season. Mike Scioscia aimed to bring more improvement in his team’s play to reach
better results in the 2012. It seems that this year was not what the Angels were expecting, having failed to get into the playoffs.
