Los Angeles Angels Wonder Boy Mike Trout Wins AL Rookie of the Year - MLB News
The name of the 2012 American League Rookie of the Year is out and it is no surprise, the winner is Los Angeles Angels’ Mike Trout.
Like the Angels last Rookie of the Year winner Tim Salmon, Trout won the award with a unanimous vote in his favour. He is the eight AL player and second from the Angels to achieve the feat.
The 21-year-old’s bag is already full of awards this year. He has bagged the Silver Slugger and the Fielding Bible awards this year. He also happens to be the youngest ever winner of the American League Rookie of the Year Award. Mike unsurprisingly was a
part of the All-Star team in 2012. He is also a strong candidate for the American League MVP as well. Not many will be surprised if he adds that to his long list of wins this year.
Trout himself is quite pleased with how things have shaped out for him. "Coming into the year, getting the call up and playing every day," Trout said, "I had confidence in myself and I knew what my potential was."
Bryce Harper, who himself won the award for the National League Rookie of the Year, was full of praise for Trout. "Mike Trout is unbelievable," he said. "He's one of the best players in baseball right now, if not the best."
The right-hander joined a struggling Angels in the end of April. From a 6-14 record at that point, the team ended up with an 85-59 season, just short of securing the Wild-Card for the post-season. Many believe an earlier introduction of the hitter in the
season may have sealed the spot for the Angels.
Mike’s bat was all guns blazing this season. He maintained a staggering batting average of .326, an on-base percentage of .399 as he hit 30 home-runs with 83 RBI’s. He was the leader in the American League with 129 runs and 49 stolen bases. The centre fielder’s
antics were also much to the delight of his team and fans as his energy had a positive effect on those around him.
Los Angeles Angels have found an amazing player and a special talent in the shape of Mike Trout and he will certainly be starting all season next year. Should his performances continue to follow the same pattern, we can surely see a lot of success in near
future for both Mike and the ball club.
