Los Angeles Angels and Jered Weaver heading to arbitration – MLB News
It seems that the Los Angeles Angels and pitcher Jered Weaver are unable to work out an agreement regarding the contract and subsequent salary for the player, as both parties will be facing arbitration.
The Angels and Weaver appeared in front of arbitrators to settle different salary related issues and a decision is expected on February 10, 2011. Weaver is asking for $8.8 million salary, but the Angels are offering $7.35 million. With close to a million
dollars difference, arbitration is required to settle the issue as soon as possible.
Weaver is a tremendous pitcher and the Angels are well aware of his exploits and contributions that he has made for the team during the season. He managed 13-12 with 3.01 ERA in 34 starts in 2010 for the Angels.
Jered was rated as the Number one reliever during the 2010 MLB season. He managed to get 233 strike-outs, the highest in the American League. The Angels are eager to settle the salary issue and have him back in the team soon. He is a tremendous asset for
the Angels and they will be hoping that something can be done to retain this important player for the next regular season.
As Spring Training is starting, the Angels will be hoping to focus on winning games and finalising their line-up and rotation for the upcoming regular season. The Angels understand the importance of Spring Training as the ideal opportunity for the team to
get some much needed game time in against some of the top tier teams in the League.
Most experts feel that the Angels are a team that has an excellent chance of going far in the regular season and possibly all the way to the World Series. Weaver has a huge role if the Angels are to achieve any type of success in the upcoming regular season.
This is why the Angels are eager to sign Weaver as their relief pitcher.
It will be interesting to see what the arbitration committee determines and how this decision may have an impact on the performance of Weaver on the mound. The Angels will be hoping Weaver can put in the same type of performance like he had last year.
Weaver will be hoping to get on the field soon and put in some good bullpen sessions for the team before Spring Training starts. He understands the importance of staying healthy and maintaining game fitness to be considered effective for the team. Only time
will tell if Weaver gets the salary that he wants and the Angels get their top pitcher back into the rotation as the regular season is just around the corner.
