Los Angeles Angels beat Detroit Tigers 3-2 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, September 9 at Angel Stadium in California.
"I thought that was the best Sanchez has been, He threw the ball better today than I've seen since he's been here. He's getting better each time out," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said regarding his team’s performance.
Starter Zack Greinke helped the Angels oust their opponents with a narrow margin.
He pitched seven innings and received two runs and five hits. He retired seven batters and was hammered with only one homer. His pitching remained consistent during his entire spell as he maintained his ERA at 4.15.
Along with starter Greinke, Angels’ relievers also showed their class and did not give any extra loop-holes.
Kevin Jepsen pitched 0.2 innings and did not allow any run or hit. He pitched accurately and maintained his ERA at 3.00.
Closer Ernesto Frieri also stood tall in crucial moments. He pitched 1.1 innings and did not give any run. He retired three while his ERA remained consistent at 1.96.
“We're playing like everybody expects us to play, We still believe we're going to make (the playoffs). The first day I came here, I believed we were going to make it. Now, I'm 100 percent sure," said Frieri.
Not only pitchers, but the Angels’ batters also played superbly and won with game with ease. Their hitters remained solid on the plate and hammered the Tigers' pitchers with great energy.
Centre fielder Mike Trout scored one run and smashed one hit along with a RBI on his four at-bats. He played strong as he also maintained his slugging percentage at .571.
"We took three from one of the best teams in baseball, We're hot. We're ready to go. All we can do is keep playing and riding out this wave until it falls out," Torii Hunter said.
Shortstop Erick Aybar scored one run and smashed one hit on his three at-bats. He played well and maintained his slugging percentage at .408.
