Los Angeles Angels bounce back in series by beating Chicago White Sox, 6-2: MLB Update
The Los Angeles Angels overpowered the Chicago White Sox 6-2 in the second outing of the three-game series at the Angel Stadium on Tuesday, May 10, to tie the series 1-1.
Despite a good win, the Angels’ Manager, Mike Scioscia, was still looking for something more and said, "We're still not full-tilt on the offensive side, but it's a good sign some guys are getting back in their game. It is easy to look at our pitching
side and marvel at what they have done. Our pitching staff has held up and carried a lion's share of our wins."
The Angels’ right-fielder, Torii Hunter, chipped to the right centre of the diamond, for a runs batted in (RBI) single off the Sox’ starter, John Danks, to fire up the three-run first inning. Alberto Callaspo then added an RBI double to take a 3-0
lead.
In the second inning, Paul Konerko hammered a one-run homer off the Angels’ starter, Joel Pineiro, to trim the lead by one run.
In the next inning, Maicer Izturis hammered a 394ft one-run homer off Danks’ pitch to widen the lead by 4-1. Callaspo added another RBI single to cement the Club’s position with 5-1.
Until the third inning, Danks had given five runs and his pitching became more worse in fifth, when he gave away a sixth run to end his five innings spell, in which he gave away ten hits, two walks and one homer while struck-out four batters.
"I'm more frustrated than I've ever been in my career," he added. "I feel like I've thrown the ball better than my record shows, but I'm still 0-6. I need to pull my weight and get better. I do not want to be the weak link on the team, but deep down,
I almost kind of feel like that.
As soon as Danks finished his spell, the closer, Jeff Gray, held the Angels score-less in last three innings, but he did not receive positive back up from the batters, as they could not create any run except an RBI single by Adam Dunn in sixth.
Pineiro, on the other hand, gave away just two runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out five batters over seven and 2/3 innings for his second win of the season. Pineiro also received full back-up from the reliever, Fernando Rodney, and closer
,Scott Downs. Both did not yield any run in their short spells.
