Los Angeles Angels clobber Oakland Athletic, 8-3: MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels batters hammer Oakland Athletics by 8-3 in the second game at the Angel Stadium in California on Tuesday night to take a 2-0 lead in the three-game series.
The Angels' second baseman, Alexi Amarista, hit a runs batted in (RBI) leading double to set the foundation for the batters in the bottom of the second inning. The Athletics' batters acquired Alexi's momentum and piled three runs
in third inning including a two-run homer by Conor Jackson. However, the Athletics could not carry the impetus and stopped to this score until the end of the game.
On the other hand, the Angels began the fireworks and crushed the Athletics starter, Brandon McCarthy. In the bottom of the third, McCarthy gave a run on a wild pitch to Bobby Abreu and then Torii Hunter scored a in single to the
infield by the Vernon Wells.
Having 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth, Hank Conger aggravated the outing for the McCarthy adding a RBI single. Then Peter Bourjos hit a run scoring triple taking the lead to 7-3. It did not stop the Angels bat, as Alexi Amarista
again added an RBI single on sacrifice fly in the eighth inning that lasted until the end of the outing.
The Angels’ manager, Mike Scioscia, spoke highly of the batters especially of Alexi. Mike said of the Alexi, "He is a player of smaller stature, but he's always played big. He played in a very tough Venezuelan Winter League the last
couple of years and done very well. I think it progressed him and put him up maybe a little higher on our depth chart than he might have been. And he had a terrific spring training for us. So he's going to put the ball in play and hopefully give us a boost."
The Manager was not alone, who praised the qualities of the Amarista, because Alexi’s team-mates were also impressed with his improvement in Major League level.
The Angel’s right fielder Torii said of Amarista. "The guy was 25 for 55 in Triple-A, so he can flat-out hit. I mean, this is the smallest powerful guy you've ever seen. He has a great approach at the plate. I could see that just
by watching him take batting practice."
The Angels’ starter, Tyler Chatwood, after giving three runs in third, struck back successfully and did not allow any run in next three and 1/3 innings. Overall, he pitched 5 1/3 innings, three runs on five hits, allowed four walks
and made just one strikeout. He was lucky to have Francisco Rodriguez and Fernando Rodney as relievers as both of them remained scoreless in short pitching spells. The closer, Jordan Walden, pitched one shutout inning for a perfect third save in season.
