Los Angeles Angels close to deal with Erick Aybar – MLB News
News is coming that Los Angeles Angels are about to make a new multi-year deal with their shortstop Erick Aybar which has created a buzz in the media with all sorts of speculations and reports regarding a disagreement on potential contract extension.
“I don't think we ever thought it wouldn't get to that point," Jerry Dipoto said earlier Wednesday. "It took a while. There are just some details to sew up but we are very close."
Some reports in the media also mentioned earlier that Aybar and his agent want a five year deal while the Angels’ management is resisting giving him a long contract.
However, according to the latest reports of media personals that the potential deal is almost finalised which carries a four year $35 million extension.
Later Aybar said, “But I feel good here, I'm doing this because I really like this team. They've given me a lot of support. Even when I was a nobody in the Dominican Republic, they supported me."
“I'm doing it because I really like this team. They've given me a lot of support, even when I was nobody," Aybar added.
Aybar’s current contract with the team runs out after this season as he will also be eligible to file for free agency this offseason. Earlier during a press conference Aybar told some reports that his agent has also advised him to see the potential options.
Next year the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers will need a shortstop and Aybar might adjust in their respective rosters as well.
Erick is a talented player and possesses some huge knowledge and experience. He started his career from the Angels franchise in 2006 and since then playing well for them.
His career .274 hitting percentage along with 24 home-runs 210 RBIs and .317 OBP certainly makes him a good player. Currently in this Major League Baseball season, Aybar is also performing well with a well balanced .171 hitting average along with four RBIs
and .209 OBP.
Experts believe this will be a healthy sign for the Angels franchise if they do agree to give him a four year extension as this will also increase their chances to play on a consistent level.
