Los Angeles Angels content with Maicer Izturis
If there is one player, who is shaping up to be a team regular, it is none other than Maicer Izturis. The leadoff hitter, for the Los Angeles Angels, is doing his best in his new role and the club appreciates that fact.
The early knock from the player has been greatly praised by the teammates and manager Mike Scioscia.
Before heading to the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington to face the Texas Rangers, Izturis stood at a batting average of .383. That figure is the second highest tally posted by any hitter in the American League.
Alex Rodriguez tops the list with .385. Till Sunday, the Angels hitter published 23 hits for his team, going out on seven games with multi-hits.
The most impressive thing to note about the leadoff hitter is his on base percentage, which is .403. The Venezuelan has Howard Kendrick and Bobby Abreu in the following and that has made him the best on the batting card since the time Chone Figgins was
with the Angels in 2009.
Outfielder Torii Hunter agrees with that assessment and it means a big deal to see the converted starter do a lot, so early.
"Izzy is working counts, going 3-2, then driving the ball hard", said Hunter. "It's fun when you come up and he's already on second base. You know you're going to see everything that pitcher has by the second time through the line up, because Izzy is working
the count. You're going to see his fastball, changeup, breaking ball.
That's a leadoff guy. That's what we were missing when he was gone for three months [with injuries] last year. People don't realize how valuable that little guy is. I call him 'The Energizer Bunny.' That's what he does for us".
Izturis may not have the makings of a top hitter but he is doing the best he can. The most important thing to note here is that his body is in full fitness. As long as his physical condition allows him to hit, he will feature on the roster as a regular player.
