Los Angeles Angels crushed by Seattle Mariners 1-4 – MLB Recap
Los Angeles Angels lost to the Seattle Mariners 1-4 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, August 12 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in California.
Angels played really poor from the start of the game and eventually lost with bitter humiliation.
Mariners held the Angels down and never allowed them to score freely. Starter Jason Vargas played terrifically and literally won the game for the Mariners.
He pitched 8.1 innings and allowed only one run. He allowed seven hits on his 3.56 ERA. Vargas remained calm on the mound and struck-out five Angels’ batters.
Tom Wilhelmsen also supported his team well with 0.2 innings as he maintained his 2.51 ERA.
On the other hand, the Angels’ hurlers disappointed with their poor pitching. They all allowed four runs in total which were enough for their opponents to steal the game away from them.
Starter Jered Weaver was hit with three runs on his 2.22 ERA. He struck out only five batters as he was smashed with two home-runs as well.
“Weaver throws across his body and he makes good pitches, so it's not easy to face him, You just have to wait for the ball and think middle, middle all the time. That was my approach today," Jesus Montero said of Weaver later in the game tried to explain
his team-mate’s outing which was one of the losing factors for his team.
Later Weaver commented on his performance with disappointment and said, “I thought I threw the ball real well, but obviously a couple of mistakes cost me, I made bad pitches and Montero put them were he was supposed to. I was just trying to stay away from
him for the most part. He's one of those guys who has my number today, so I'll try to pitch him differently next time."
Ernesto Frieri also played poorly for the Angels and was hit with one run on 2.04 ERA. He pitched one inning and was only able to strike-out two Mariners’ batters.
The Angels will be disappointed with their poor performance against the Mariners. Los Angeles will be looking to improve their performance and build up some confidence in their line-up.
