Los Angeles Angels crushed by Tampa Bay Rays 0-7 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels were crushed by the Tampa Bay Rays 0-7 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, August 16 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in California.
Angels’ pitchers performed terribly and did not play their natural aggressive game. They played under pressure and eventually could not match the Rays’ brilliance. Their hitters and at the same time pitchers played with very little energy and received a huge hammering from the Rays’ offence.
Dan Haren upfront played really poor and was smashed with five runs and seven hits. He was only able to strike-out two Rays’ batters while his ERA rose to 4.90.
Relief pitcher Jerome Williams also did not play well and received two runs and one hit on his 4.76 ERA.
On the other hand, the Rays’ entire pitching line-up proved their valour and won the game with style.
Rays’ starting pitcher David Price pitched seven innings and allowed only three hits without any run. He retired eight batters and maintained his 2.39 ERA.
"I feel like I've been throwing the ball well, I've gotten a lot of runs early, and that makes my job a lot easier, make people put the ball in play and get early outs so I can go deep into games. I'm not worrying about any individual numbers or anything like that. I'm just trying to help us every five days to get to the postseason, and we'll take it from there," Price said regarding his own and the team’s performance with detail.
Price added, “My game plan doesn't change, I was trying to attack them the same way I would if it was a 1-0 game or a zero-zero game.”
Along with starting pitcher, the Rays’ closing pitcher Burke Badenhop also performed beautifully and received only a hit on his consistent 3.55 ERA.
Rays’ batters especially Evan Longoria also did well with the bat. He added two runs and smashed two hits along with two RBIs.
Right fielder Ben Zobrist also scored two runs and two hits on his four at-bats while his slugging percentage also remained consistent at .452.
