Los Angeles Angels defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-4 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, May 23 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
Angels’ took early advantage of Royals lame pitching. Their batters played wonderfully and scored first run in the very first inning of the match.
Angels’ entire batting lineup felt responsibility as they continued their great run and scored back to back scores in fourth and fifth inning.
“I thought we showed a lot of life at the end of the game," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "We've got a four-game set, and their closer came in and had to throw close to 40 pitches in the first game of the set,
and I thought we had a good approach.”
He added, “Any time you can put the tying run at second base and the winning run at first base in the ninth inning, you've done something, especially when you've been down three."
Though the Royals upfront hitters also showed their offensive skills and tried their best to bounce back in the game especially in the bottom fourth and top fifth but still they could not close the gap and lost
bitterly in the end. Eventually, the Angels ended all hoped of Royals’ roster when their hitters scored two quick runs in the eighth inning and won the game in style.
Centre fielder Mike Trout once again performed well and scored two runs on two hits on his two at bats. He ran for an RBI and maintained his slugging percentage of .582.
Designated hitter, Albert Pujols, also contributed with his one score on one hit as he also ran for an RBI. He hit hard on his four at bats while he maintained his slugging percentage of .434.
First baseman Mark Trumbo scored one run on two hits. He ran for two RBIs on his four at bats while he also maintained his slugging percentage of .532.
Along with batters extraordinary hitting, the Angels pitching lineup also performed superbly and helped their team win a first game of the series.
Joe Blanton pitched 6.1 innings and allowed only two runs on seven hits. He remained confident on the mound during his entire spell and played a key role in the Angels’ win.
