Los Angeles Angels defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 – MLB Update

The Los Angeles Angels put in a tremendous effort as they defeated Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 in a dramatic Cactus League game at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles on Monday, March 28.
The Dodgers’ hopes were washed out when Angels’ newcomer Mike Trout singled by chipping a ground ball to left-fielder Xavier Paul. It provided confidence to Hank Conger who launched a sacrifice fly to center-fielder Trent Oeltjen that allowed Alexi Amarista
to grab a leading score.
The game stumbled upon on either side until the sixth inning when the Dodgers succeeded to secure a one run lead. American League Western franchise did not allow the opposition to feel easy throughout the game. Andre Ethier led off the club removing a one
run deficit posted by Angels’ Mark Trumbo in the first inning, but Los Angeles were not ready to let the game away so early.
Maicer Izturis again posted a leading run for the Angels in the second inning scoring on a ground ball to left-fielder Tony Gwynn Jr. The game kept on going with uncertainty for either side to achieve a wide margin and the score ended in the Dodgers’ favour
4-3 in the sixth inning. The club enjoyed the lead until the ninth inning, but could not retain their advantage when closer Jonathan Broxton permitted two valuable runs to the Angels.
Angels’ closer Ryan Brasier did not permit the opposition to remove the lead. Starter Ervin Santana was impressive in his five innings striking-out five batters. Santana, making his sixth and final spring start, threw 69 pitches and went for just three hits
that consumed two runs. The 28-year-old RHP Santana, who will make his regular season debut Saturday against Kansas City Royals, ended his spring exhibition with a 2-1 record and a 2.42 ERA.
Reliever Fernando Rodney was expensive in his single inning of pitching, as he allowed two runs on three hits, however struck-out one batter. Relievers’ Jason Bulger, Hisanori Takahashi, Michael Meyer and Brasier remained scoreless.
Dodgers’ starting hurler had some momentum in four innings and consumed just two runs on four hits striking out four. He tossed 80 pitches in his final spring outing and ended exhibition trip 1-1 with a 6.19 ERA. Despite being expensive, he will make his
regular season debut against World Series champions San Francisco Giants on Saturday.
