Los Angeles Angels defeat Minnesota Twins 6-2 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angles once again showed their offensive strength as they defeated the Minnesota Twins 6-2 on Wednesday, May 9 at Target Field, Minneapolis to take the three game series 2-1.
Short-stop Erick Aybar, centre-fielder Mike Trout and slugger Albert Pujols played well for the Angels who eventually were able to defeat the Twins with a big margin in their decisive game.
On the other hand, the Angels starting pitcher Ervin Santana also proved his game and never allowed any Twins’ batter to challenge his fast and curving throws.
After the game, Santana’s team-mates also appreciated the way he showed the level of commitment on the mound.
Pujols said for Santana’s great outing, "It was great, He's been pitching the ball well. It's great to give run support to any of our starting pitchers. As competitive as they are, Ervin knew we scored some runs early, but he kept making his pitches, never lost his focus."
Santana, a seven-year Major League veteran, went in just over seven innings for just two runs and six hits. His level of confidence was huge during the entire game and he never made any big flaws in throwing which not only provided the Angels a good win, but it also gave him the chance to become more prominent in the ongoing competition.
Later, Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia said for his team’s win, "He felt better, obviously, getting a couple runs, I felt as the game picked up his command got a little bit better."
However, the Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was not happy on his side’s loss when he said in the media explaining, "We need to make some changes. We need some hits. We need some new life in here, the whole package."
In the meanwhile, this win has given the Angels more stability in the overall standing of American League West where although they are sitting bottom behind the Seattle Mariners, but their winning percentage is improving with every win. It will be interesting to see how the Angels managed to build some confidence in their game and try to carry their winning momentum forward.
