Los Angeles Angels defeat New York Yankees 6-0 for back-to-back win – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels shutout the league rivals and the American League leader New York Yankees 6-0 with some exceptional pitching from Dan Haren in the second outing of the three-game series at Angel Stadium in Anaheim on Saturday, September 10 to take a 2-0
lead.
Haren outpitched the Yankees’ starter Carsten Charles Sabathia with his brilliant full game destruction. Right-hand hurler struck-out seven batters and permitted only four hits over his nine innings to get his 15th win of the season.
Dan held the Yankees’ strong batting line-up, including Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeria under great pressure with his perfect sliders and unplayable changeups. The 30-year-old ball thrower tossed brilliant
pitches to improve his record to 15-8 with a 3.06 ERA in 31 starts in the 2011 regular season.
Haren received perfect back-up from his batters, who initially struggled against Sabathia. Angels scored only one run until Sabathia remained on the mound for his six innings. However they touched eight hits against Sabathia to force Joe Girardi to change
his pitcher.
As soon as Sabathia handed the ball to Hector Noesi for the seventh inning, the Angels’ batting came alive. Right-fielder Mike Trout led the seventh inning off with his line drive RBI single and then Erick Aybar hit a sacrifice fly allowing Mark Trumbo to
score the third run of the game. Jeff Mathis followed with his stunning 380-feet long two-run homer to take the Angels into a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Torii Hunter cemented the game with his 403 destructive home-run against rookie closer George Kontos in the bottom of the eighth.
Yankees’ batting line-up was on the back foot as Jeter made only one hit of 4 at-bats and Teixeira, Cano and Granderson failed to touch any ball in their last three at-bats.
Angels now are moving ahead to take down the Yankees in the series with a sweep for the first time in this season. Angels have lost each of the previous two series 2-1 and now they have a perfect chance to square things with a shutout series win.
Yankees being a league leader will definitely try to make perfect rebound in the rubber game on Sunday at the same venue.
