Los Angeles Angels defeat San Francisco Giants 5-3 – MLB Spring Training
Los Angeles Angels defeated San Francisco Giants 5-3 at the Scottsdale Stadium in Scottsdale, Arizona on Tuesday, March 27 in their Cactus League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Brad Mills was the star of the show for the Angels as he tossed six strong innings to help his team establish complete control over the contest. The starter gave up just two runs and four hits to lower his spring ERA to 1.23. However, despite his heroics,
Mills will start his season at Triple A league.
Albert Pujols led the hitting attack in an emphatic fashion he went 2 for 3 with a double for the Angles. Pujols, who is one of the dynamic hitters in the AL, will be looking to give solid performances throughout the regular season.
For the Giants, Tim Lincecum pitched with great control and accuracy as he allowed two runs and five hits in just over five innings. The two times Cy Young Award winner, Lincecum looked slightly disappointed after his side lost the game.
"It's been frustrating as a pitcher just knowing that you can't control a fastball ... your go-to pitch and the one every other pitch works off of," Lincecum said. "When it's not working, and you can't throw a strike to a pitcher who's not swinging the bat,
that's frustrating."
The Angels will be very pleased with their performance in a close game against their arch rivals. Showing great composure, determination and mental strength, the Angels handled the pressure superbly to put their opponents under immense pressure.
Mike Scioscia and his men have looked in fine form since the start of 2012 Spring Training. With an impressive 15-9 spring win-loss record, it seems the Angels have worked out a method to cross the winning line. Angles’ last World Series triumph was recorded
in 2002.
Although the Angels have won the American League West Division title five times over the last ten years, they have not been able to live up the expectation during the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if the Angels can give consistent results to reach
the World Series finals this season.
