Los Angeles Angels defeat Toronto Blue Jays 10-6 – MLB Update
The Los Angeles Angels batting squad dominated the Toronto Blue Jays pitching depth to take their club into a dictating 10-6 in the second outing of the critical four-game series at Rogers Centre in Toronto on Tuesday, September 20.
Angels’ left-fielder Vernon Wells laid down the foundation for the batting as he hammered a one-run home-run in the top of the second inning. Henley Kendrick became the first to follow Wells in the top of the third inning. Kendrick hit a ground rule double
to right-field and Alberto Callaspo availed the chance to score. Mark Trumbo earned an RBI single before Wells contributed his first RBI of the game.
Angels enjoyed 4-2 in the top of the third, which then moved to 5-2 after Erick Aybar stole home to start the fourth. Callaspo hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field to earn an RBI single. Kendrick and Torii Hunter singled before Mark Trumbo launched a three-run
homer to close down the fourth inning.
The Angels were 9-2 and then they added one more run in the sixth to finalise the lead to 10-2. With plenty of runs at his back, Angels’ starter Joel Pineiro pitche a little loose and yielded four runs over nine hits and walked two over the six innings.
However, the score was enough to make Pineiro enjoy his seventh win of the season.
Blue Jays’ Edwin Encarnacion scored two RBIs while Mike McCoy and Eric Thames each added runs in the club’s six runs.
Blue Jays’ starter Brett Cecil started on a low note and this performance sent the Blue Jays’ late pitchers on the back foot. Cecil was tagged for six hits, four runs and permitted two walks, to receive his tenth loss of the season. Kyle Drabek had a nightmare
outing, allowing seven hits and six runs over two innings.
Angels now are one win shy of the Tampa Bay Rays in the journey to the postseason in the American League. With this win, the Angels have a positive sign for their spectators as the club still have to present a solid performance in the two upcoming games
of the series.
