Los Angeles Angels defeated by Texas Rangers 2-3 – MLB Update
The Texas Rangers defeated the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 on Friday, April 05 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas in 2013 Major League Baseball season in the first game of their three-match series.
Rangers’ overall all players did well and showed great courage during the entire game. Especially their pitchers showed great commitment and proved one of the winning factors for them.
Derek Holland started the game for the Rangers and pitched seven solid innings. He received six hits and two runs along with two earned runs and one homer. He also struck out five Angels batters on his 2.57 ERA.
"I heard the crowd erupt every time, I'm just going after him, treating him like every other hitter. ... He's a great hitter, I just didn't really want to give him too much to hit. He can hit it a mile away," Holland said.
Later Josh Hamilton said, “I got worn out as good today as I had anywhere else. The booing was a little louder. The chants, I've been called a crack head before at Yankee Stadium and places like that, just like it was today, It probably hurt a little more
to know that people would turn that quickly.”
The Angels pitchers however, did not play well and lost the game in the end. Starter Jason Vargas pitched 5.2 innings and allowed eight hits and one run. He allowed one earned run and struck out four Rangers hitters on 1.59 ERA.
Relief pitcher Garrett Richards pitched one inning and allowed two hits and one run on 2.45 ERA. He struck out one Rangers’ hitter and was replaced by closer Scott Downs. Downs also pitched one inning and allowed one run on two hits on 7.71 ERA.
Not only pitchers, but the Angels talented batting lineup was also remained unable to perform. Left Fielder Mike Trout only ran for one RBI as he came to bat four times. Shortstop Erick Aybar also remained hitless and showed no commitment at all.
Josh Hamilton, who was playing against the team with whom he played in the last Major League outing, also did not play well on his four at bats.
