Los Angeles Angels dominate Seattle Mariners 5-2 – MLB Recap
Los Angeles Angels defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-2 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, September 1 at Safeco Field in Seattle.
Angels’ played tremendously and won with great focus.
"That's a big statement on how we keep grinding it out, We beat a terrific pitcher this afternoon. He had been pitching as well as anyone in baseball for a while." Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia said.
Scioscia added, "They cracked the door open for us a little bit. I thought we had some good at-bats, some key hits, put some guys in motion. We were getting after it, Felix is tough. He does special things with the baseball. He changes speed. He's got stuff. He competes. We did a terrific job against a great pitcher, The fact is Ervin really, pitch for pitch, was right with Felix.”
They held the Mariners with a decent offensive strategy and never showed any loop-holes which eventually proved fruitful as they eased past their opponents with a three run advantage.
Angels’ entire team stood tall against the Mariners’ top offence with competitive pitching and batting.
Centre fielder Mike Trout scored one run and smashed two hits on his .578 slugging percentage.
Torii Hunter also did well on his four at-bats. He scored two runs and smashed three hits while he maintained his slugging percentage at .442.
Designated hitter Albert Pujols scored one and smashed one hit along with an RBI as he also maintained his slugging percentage at .538.
Along with batters, the Angels' pitchers also played well and put in a good performance.
Starting pitcher Ervin Santana pitched seven innings and received only two runs and four hits on his 5.32 ERA. He struck-out five and proved one of the winning factors for the Angels.
Relief pitcher Kevin Jepsen also did well on the mound as he tossed one inning and was smashed for only one hit. He struck-out one while his ERA remained consistent at 3.23.
Ernesto Frieri also did well on the mound as he did not receive any run or hit on his consistent 2.11 ERA.
