Los Angeles Angels dominate Seattle Mariners 5-4 – MLB Recap
Los Angeles Angels hit the Seattle Mariners hard with a 5-4 victory in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, September 25 at Angel Stadium in California.
Angels’ pitchers did very well on the mound and kept the Mariners' experienced hitters under pressure during the entire game.
Starter Zack Greinke played especially aggressive and literally won the game for the Angels. He stood tall against some of the senior Mariners' hitters with great energy which eventually proved fruitful for the Los Angeles side.
“It was kind of fluky. I was trying to get ahead of guys, and it just kind of worked out that way, I was just throwing strikes, and I had 27 pitches in the first inning because there were long at-bats. So there was really nothing I could do about it,” Greinke said.
He added, “The next couple of innings, I was trying to get balls put in play so that I could get a little deeper into the game, but it wasn't happening that way, I wasn't trying to get strikeouts, but I'm not complaining. I got a bunch of them early."
Overall he pitched five innings and received one run and seven hits on his consistent 3.40 ERA. Angels’ starter retired 13 batters and showed his class.
Relief pitcher Garrett Richards pitched one inning and did not receive any run or hit on his 4.39 ERA. He also played well and retired three batters with great determination.
Scott Downs pitched 0.2 innings and allowed only three runs and three hits along with a homer on his 3.22 ERA.
Centre fielder Mike Trout scored two runs and smashed two hits on his four at-bats with his persistent slugging percentage at .554.
Right fielder Torii Hunter added two runs and smashed two hits along with two RBIs on his consistent .449 slugging percentage.
On the other hand, the Mariners’ did not play well and lost the game with bitter humiliation. Their pitchers and hitters showed defensive plays which provided a clear advantage to the Angels to oust them.
