Los Angeles Angels eases past Oakland Athletics – MLB Spring Training Recap
Los Angeles Angels eased past Oakland Athletics 9-1 in a Spring Training game at the Phoenix Municipal Stadium here in Phoenix, Arizona. The Angels dominated their opponents in almost all departments of the game to establish complete control over the contest. The pitchers showed great control and accuracy as they allowed only one run in nine innings pitched to help the Angels secure an important win.
Albert Pujols has a decent first outing for the Angels as he hit an RBI double. The striker is one of the most dangerous players in Major League Baseball right now. After serving St. Louis Cardinals for 11 years, the hitter signed a 10 year $254 million contract with the Angels this offseason. The deal is the third largest in history of the game and the Angels’ fans will have high expectations from Pujols in the upcoming season. In a post match interview, Pujols stated that he had a lot of fun batting in each of the first three innings.
"That was fun," Pujols said of batting. "Hopefully we get to do that a lot this season. When I made the ballclub in '01 I didn't know anyone in the National League. You are your own scouting report."
C.J. Wilson also made useful contributions in pitching department of the game as he gave up a hit and a walk over two innings pitched. Athletics’ starter Brad Peacock showed great composure while throwing at the mighty Pujols.
"It's kind of funny," Wilson said. "He came up there and drive in the run and we all looked at each other in the dugout and said 'Yep, that's Albert.'"
"I tried not to look at him," Peacock said. "I was trying to hit my spot but left a curveball up for him and he crushed it."
Albert Pujols will have great amount of responsibility on his shoulders this season. He made the most of available opportunities in his tenure with the Cardinals but now he will have to face American League pitchers. If he can perform consistently throughout the next season, Los Angeles Angels will be a force to reckon with.
