Los Angeles Angels edge New York Yankees 9-8 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels edge past New York Yankees with a narrow margin of 9-8 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, May 28 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Right fielder Mark Trumbo played well for the Angels and earned a great win in the end. His four at bats proved a winning factor for the Angels, who ended the Yankees five game winning streak.
"I was super proud of the way we came together against a really good team," said Trumbo, "Of course they're going to score some runs in that situation, but it's huge the way we came back from the first inning on."
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said, "Hopefully it's a breakout game, During the streak, we have not been swinging the bat well. We've been doing just enough to win, so hopefully this will get us to a different place."
Starter Jered Weaver got injured in the very first inning and put the Angels’ on back foot, but their rest of the pitching offence stood tall against the Yankees aggressive batting lineup and eventually came out victorious.
The Yankees starter Phil Hughes was certainly hammered with enormous energy by the Angels top order.
He finished his 5.1 innings spell giving seven runs and seven earned runs along with 11 hits.
The game started off with Yankees scoring early in the first inning. Later they added another two runs and strengthened the lead to three runs into bottom first.
The Angels on the other hand, were also coming with a huge confidence and never let the Yankees to take control of the game at any stage instead, started a tremendous play surpassing their opponents’ lead and got one runs’ advantage 3-4.
The Yankees centre fielder Granderson levelled the score into second 4-4, but the Angels’ again took the lead 4-6 in the bottom fourth with left fielder Mike Trout’s homer.
Slowly but steadily the Angels’ kept the Yankees under pressure and held them with enormous power until ninth inning which resulted in a great win for them.
