Los Angeles Angels edge past Baltimore Orioles 9-7 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels edged past the Baltimore Orioles 9-7 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, July 5 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
Angels scored five runs in the fourth inning and powered past the Orioles with some heavy hammering.
In response to Angels’ total nine runs, the Orioles were only able to score seven. Designated hitter Kendrys Morales scored a match winning two-run single and proved one of the key factors for the Angels.
Starter Garrett Richards despite giving seven runs, ten hits and seven earned runs, was still able to win the game for the Angels. He was also smashed for three home-runs as his ERA rose to 4.21.
"I still feel like I'm the same pitcher I was that day," Richards said.
Later Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia said, "Garrett was struggling with his command, first and foremost, He has such a live arm, but you need to command counts and he's having a lot of trouble doing that. So we're going to let Garrett go down and work on
a couple of things so that he'll be more polished when he gets his next shot. I think we have a lot of things to mull over the next week, and we'll see how our rotation lines up after the (All-Star) break."
The entire Angels’ batting line-up performed on Thursday. Centre-fielder Mike Trout made two runs on two hits along with two RBIs during his two at-bats.
Right-fielder Torii Hunter scored a single run on his five at-bats along with one hit and one RBI.
Slugger Albert Pujols made one run on a single hit as he remained consistent with his .461 slugging percentage.
Short-stop Erick Aybar also did not disappoint with his one run, two hits along with one RBI.
Though the Angels’ entire batting line-up played brilliantly, the Orioles’ pitching rotation also gave many chances to hit freely.
Starter Jake Arrieta, relief pitcher Luis Ayala and closer Matt Lindstrom together gave up nine runs which were enough for the Angels to oust the Orioles with bitter humiliation. The Angels will be happy with their performance as they are finding some decent
rhythm in their game-play. It will be interesting to see how far they can carry their winning momentum forward.
