Los Angeles Angels edge past Boston Red Sox 5-2 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels edged past the Boston Red Sox 5-2 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Thursday, August 30 at Angel Stadium in California.
Zack Greinke played brilliantly and earned a great victory for the Angels. He pitched seven innings and received two runs on five hits. He retired seven Angels’ batters and received one homer on his 4.82 ERA. He stood tall against the entire Red Sox’s batting line-up and eventually won the game in style.
“I was doing so bad, I figured I couldn't do any worse, The main thing (now) is I'm not worried about messing up. ... Better location, I guess that's the main thing. I'm not leaving my mistakes over the middle of the plate," Greinke said.
Along with Greinke, Angels’ relief pitcher Kevin Jepsen also did well on the mound as he pitched one inning and received only one hit and maintained his 3.34 ERA.
Closer Ernesto Frieri pitched one inning and allowed one hit while striking-out two on his consistent 2.16 ERA.
Angels played well and never let the Red Sox play freely which eventually proved fruitful as they ousted them quite comprehensively.
Torii Hunter scored two runs and three hits on his four at-bats while he also maintained his slugging percentage at .433.
"Right now, we're playing like it's all or nothing, and we're all-in, They're kind of in a rebuilding stage. You've still got to respect the pitching over there," said Torii Hunter.
Designated hitter Albert Pujols also did well on his four at-bats as he scored one and smashed two hits along with two RBIs while his slugging percentage remained consistent at .539.
On the other hand, the Red Sox batters and pitchers disappointed with their performances.
Manager Bobby Valentine said, "That eighth inning, we had two line drives with guys on base and couldn't find a gap, Their guys were playing in the right place in the outfield."
Especially their starter Jon Lester proved disastrous for the Red Sox he as pitched eight innings and received five runs and nine hits.
